Giro d’Italia, 18 May: traffic conditions in Sirmione

The time trial stage of the Giro d’Italia will take place on Saturday 18 May between Castiglione delle Stiviere and Desenzano del Garda.

The Sirmione area will not be crossed by the race. However, it is appropriate to take into account that traffic to and from our city will suffer consequences.

Before reaching the finish line in Desenzano del Garda, cyclists coming from Pozzolengo will travel along Strada Priovinciale 13, passing next to the San Martino tower and passing in front of the Sirmione A4 motorway toll booth.
After crossing the town of San Martino della Battaglia, they will take via Colli Storici and at the roundabout of Cà Maiol and the Hops restaurant, they will turn left keeping to via Colli Storici.
They will be completely closed to traffic from approximately 8am to 6pm:

• the Provincial Road 13 from Pozzolengo to San Martino
• via Colli Storici in San Martino della Battaglia
• the Sirmione A4 motorway toll booth.

To avoid possible interference with the race, Sirmione will be completely closed to traffic at the same times:

• the stretch of viale della Comunità Europea between the roundabout in via Carlo Marx and the roundabout of Cà Maiol and the Hops restaurant
• via Brescia in the direction of Desenzano del Garda from the Mosaico roundabout.

The A4 motorway toll booths in Desenzano del Garda and Peschiera del Garda will remain open, as will the Lugana ring road junction.

For those coming from Desenzano it will be possible to reach Sirmione only by taking the ring road towards Peschiera and exiting at the Lugana junction.
Instead, those coming from Peschiera can reach Sirmione either by taking the ring road towards Desenzano and always exiting at the same Lugana junction or along the ordinary road system from Via Verona.

The stage of the Giro will attract many enthusiasts and it is therefore foreseeable that the practicability of the roads of Sirmione and lower Garda will be slowed down and difficult for the entire day.
