VISTE DA LAGO DI GARDA (Views from Lake Garda), the new photobook by Hiro Tanaka, stems from work created during the Sirmione Photo Residency 2025. During the presentation, the photographer will be in conversation with journalist Luca Fiore and Ludovica Pellegatta, Partnerships Director at Magnum Photos.
Hiro Tanaka’s gaze operates through visual associations, formal resonances, and juxtapositions that emerge from a prolonged engagement with images rather than from a pre-established plan. Viste da lago di Garda reflects the way the Japanese photographer arrived in Sirmione: without maps, preconceptions, or hypotheses to test, instead allowing the place to reveal itself through its everyday reality.
Thus, a tangible Sirmione and Lake Garda emerge in BOOK04 of the Sirmione Photo Residency. The images acquire meaning through their juxtaposition—amidst similarities and contrasts—building a sense of daily life that is at once familiar and unexpected.
