Sirmione is Blue Flag 2026
Water quality, environmental sustainability, and virtuous land management were rewarded

The Municipality of Sirmione has once again received the Blue Flag in 2026, for the fourth consecutive year. This prestigious international award is given by the FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education to locations that stand out for their environmental quality, sustainability, and services.
The Blue Flag was once again awarded this year to Giamaica Beach (Lido delle Grotte), one of the most iconic locations in the Sirmione area.
The official award ceremony took place on Thursday, May 14th in Rome, at the Italian headquarters of the FEE. Deputy Mayor Maurizio Ferrari, representing the Sirmione Municipal Administration, accepted the award.
The recognition is awarded based on rigorous and certified criteria that evaluate the quality of bathing water, sustainable land management, beach safety and accessibility, environmental education, waste management, wastewater treatment, energy efficiency, and sustainable mobility.
“We are particularly proud of this recognition, which confirms the Municipal Administration’s ongoing work to ensure high standards of water quality, environmental protection and natural heritage, as well as accessibility of services and beaches for people with disabilities,” – said Maurizio Ferrari – “The Blue Flag represents a shared achievement that recognizes the daily commitment of institutions, associations, operators, and citizens in caring for and enhancing our territory.”
The 2026–2028 Sustainability Plan
The new 2026–2028 Sustainability Plan is a key element of Sirmione’s candidacy and focuses on sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, environmental protection, and hydrogeological safety. Results already achieved include the construction of a new elementary school with advanced technologies, energy efficiency improvements in middle schools, the activation of the Renewable Energy Community, the bike path to Peschiera del Garda, and a waste sorting rate increased to 72.3% thanks to 95 computerized Ecopoints.
Maintenance of the 80,000 square meters of Garda reed beds, the monitoring of over 5,000 municipal trees, the replacement of damaged trees at Punta Grò, and the natural replenishment of the beaches continue. For the three-year period 2026–2028, New photovoltaic systems, electric charging stations, and environmental awareness initiatives such as “The Lake Begins Here” and “Blue Points” are planned.
The 2026 Blue Flag has also been confirmed for Toscolano-Maderno and Gardone Riviera, with Limone sul Garda also being included. For Sirmione, the recognition represents the result of collaborative efforts between institutions, schools, associations, and the local community to protect the lake and promote environmental sustainability.
