Sirmione, Capital of Photography: a weekend among great masters and new generations

From the Magnum Photos exhibition to the Teens Photo Marathon, passing through the reflections of Paolo Pellegrin and Marco Cattaneo: the peninsula confirms itself as an international hub for the image

Published on : 21 April 2026

It was an intense and vibrant weekend, April 18th and 19th, which Sirmione once again played a leading role in. The city confirmed its vocation as a cultural hub of excellence, offering a program ranging from the prestige of international exhibitions to the depth of authorial conferences, to the freshness of field training for tomorrow’s photographers.

The masters Pellegrin and Cattaneo

The weekend saw the extraordinary participation of two photography and publishing heavyweights: Paolo Pellegrin, Magnum photographer, and Marco Cattaneo, director of National Geographic Italy.

The two guests visited the exhibition “If trees could speak” at Palazzo Callas Exhibitions, a Magnum Photos project that explores the dialogue between man and nature and includes photographs by Pellegrin himself. On Saturday, April 18th, at the Hotel Catullo, for the Imago @ Catullo series, they were the protagonists of the conference “The Power of Images,” offering the public a profound and authoritative reflection on contemporary visual language.

A Bridge Between Generations: The Teens Photo Marathon

On Sunday, April 19th, attention shifted to the Teens Photo Marathon, the creative challenge dedicated to the photographers of tomorrow. In a moment of great educational value, Pellegrin and Cattaneo met with the young people at the race’s start, greeting them and sharing valuable advice.
This face-to-face meeting between masters and “beginners” underscored the city’s mission: to be a place where photographic culture is not only showcased, but actively passed down and regenerated.
