Sirmione: more beautiful, more welcoming

Street tutors and best practices for making the most of a historic center that is everyone's heritage

Published on : 14 July 2025

Strolling through Sirmione’s historic center is like immersing yourself in a living museum, where every alley, every stone, and every glimpse reveals centuries of history and beauty. The ancient walls, the stone houses, the scents of the lakeside vegetation, and the majesty of the Rocca Scaligera create a unique atmosphere, a heritage like no other.

Caring for this heritage is the fruit of a collaborative effort involving multiple stakeholders: the Municipal Administration, with policies aimed at promoting and protecting the area; businesses, with their culture of hospitality and ability to showcase local excellence; citizens, the daily custodians of Sirmione’s identity; and tourists and visitors, whose contribution comes through a respectful and attentive attitude toward the environment and its surroundings.

To promote appropriate and responsible behavior, the Municipality of Sirmione has launched two important initiatives.

  • The first is the presence of street tutors on weekends, responsible for managing the incoming and outgoing flow of tourists day travellers, indicating the routes to follow to avoid overcrowding.
  • It is the street tutors’ task to provide information and raise awareness of the appropriate behaviour to observe when visiting the historic centre of Sirmione. The code of conduct can be downloaded by scanning the QR code on their bib.
  • The second is an awareness campaign aimed at teaching respect for beauty, including the installation of signs urging visitors not to stroll in their swimsuits within the historic center. Dressing appropriately is not just a matter of elegance, but a gesture of respect for a unique place, which deserves to be experienced with care, just like any work of art.

Sirmione‘s uniqueness also lies in its geographic configuration, which, with the beaches close to the historic center, allows you to undress, put your swimsuit back on, and enjoy a regenerating break just steps from the village streets. From the center, some of Lake Garda’s most beautiful beaches are easily reached: Spiaggia delle Muse, right next to the castle walls; Lido delle Bionde, a romantic cove located between the Villa Cortine Park and the remains of the Roman Villa; and finally, Giamaica Beach, with its smooth white rocks from which you can dive into its crystal-clear waters.
