For the second consecutive year the famous Jamaica Beach in Sirmione has received the important recognition of the Blue Flag, a symbol of quality, commitment and environmental attention.

The prestigious international environmental certification was delivered on May 14th to Mayor Luisa Lavelli in the Italian headquarters of the FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education in Rome.

The Blue Flag is awarded to marine and lake locations that meet rigorous water and beach quality criteria and that implement sustainable land management practices, with particular attention to accessibility for people with disabilities. This recognition, obtained also thanks to the coordination of Luca Fila and the support of the Comunità del Garda, enhances the tourist offer of Sirmione, attesting to the community’s commitment to responsible management of the coast and beaches while respecting the environment. The process that led to the awarding of the prestigious environmental certification would not have been possible without the active participation and indispensable support of the Direzione Regionale Musei Lombardia and the Directorate of the archaeological area of the Grotte di Catullo.
Thanks also go to all those who implement environmental education projects and activities every year, including the Trebeschi Institute, Sirmione Servizi and the local associations.

FEE, recognized by UNESCO as a world leader in environmental education and sustainable development, awards the Blue Flag award every year in 49 countries around the world. The program aims to promote sustainable land management in coastal municipalities, encouraging careful and environmentally friendly environmental policies.

The quality of bathing water is the main criterion for the evaluation, but other aspects such as environmental education, waste management, regulation of vehicular traffic, safety and beach services are also considered.
