Sirmione Photo Residency 2023
A two-week residency on Lake Garda to independently develop a photographic project
The Municipality of Sirmione opens the selections of the second edition of the Sirmione Photo Residency, the photographic residence dedicated to Sirmione and its territory.
Sirmione offers this great opportunity: it offers a two-week residence on Lake Garda to independently develop a photographic project inspired by Sirmione: a place full of culture, history, nature and landscape. Ideas for an imagination that can translate into concrete images.
The project stems from the desire of the Municipal Administration to see its city told through different eyes: the eyes of photographers engaged in a structured work that returns an organic and original image of the territory and its community.
Sirmione Photo Residency stands out and is characterized by the great freedom that is granted to the participating photographers in imagining, proposing and realizing their own project.
The photographers will be guided in the realization of the project by two prestigious international photography experts:
Andréa Holzherr, Global Cultural Director, Magnum Photos, view her resume and
Ludovica Pellegatta, Partnerships Senior Manager, Magnum Photos, view her resume.
Andréa Holzherr and Ludovica Pellegatta, as well as being members of the jury, will follow the project step by step.
Le The essential information and the Call (deadline Friday 31 March 2023)
In October 2022, Davide Greco, the photographer selected in the first edition of the residency, developed a project that we will see in the spring of next year and of which we publish some preview images here. The excellent results that can already be seen from these first images convinced the organizers to promote the second edition of the residency.
Davide Greco has come into harmony with an intimate Sirmione, made up of people who represent or protect the historical, cultural, naturalistic or spiritual heritage of the place. The images created extend and amplify these tales and stories, made of gratitude towards a territory that fascinates at every sunrise and sunset.
In the meeting with the Sirmione community, the Turin photographer intercepted the spirit of the place: an entity that lives through its inhabitants, traditions, landscape, translating all this into a visual synthesis in which the community can identify.
The Sirmione Photo Residency is a research and development residence in which photography can become the key tool for tracing points of union between the different dimensions of collective living and translate into an opportunity for the cultural and ethical growth of society.
