Ignaz Semmelweis was a scientist who lived in the nineteenth century, celebrated today by a Google doodle: the celebration is not for the anniversary of his birth or death, but is linked to a discovery that Semmelweis made and which is proving fundamental in these days of coronavirus pandemic (SARS-CoV-2).
Semmelweis is in fact considered the first scientist to understand the importance of adequate hygiene to prevent infections, including the good practice of washing hands thoroughly. For this Google celebrates it with a short video in which the correct technique for washing hands is shown. (in italian only)
