A safer Public Library
The seismic improvement and fire safety adaptation works of the building will begin on Monday 30 September

The important seismic improvement and fire safety adaptation works of the building that are affecting the building that houses, in addition to the Public Library, also the Sirmione Middle School, after having mainly affected the external parts of the building, will continue in the internal parts of the building.

The Municipal Administration has the safety of its citizens at heart, a priority issue to which the utmost attention is paid: the strengthening of the structure will guarantee maximum safety for both the public and the staff. The interventions, financed by the PNRR and mandatory by law for public buildings, are essential for the protection of those who frequent the building on a daily basis, they will allow the entire building to be improved according to the most modern standards in terms of seismic resistance. Once the works are completed, the Library will be able to be used in maximum safety by all our children and by the people who live there and work there on a daily basis.

In order to allow these works to be carried out as quickly as possible, it is necessary to close the Library starting from Monday 30 September, for four weeks and, for the same period, all loan and return services will be suspended. During the closure period, users of the Sirmione Library will be able to contact the libraries of the nearby municipalities, Desenzano del Garda, Pozzolengo and Lonato del Garda, which are partners of the Sirmione Library in the Brescia Est Library System and can therefore guarantee Sirmione readers all loan, return and consultation services.

The important seismic improvement and fire safety adaptation works of the building will also offer the opportunity to plan a new redevelopment intervention of the access space to the Library and specifically of the area between the Library building and the Town Hall. The space will be completely redesigned to obtain an access and passage area towards the Schools that will not only be functional, but will become a meeting and relationship point for citizens, further promoting the central role of the Library as a place for the dissemination of knowledge and social cohesion.

This intervention also reaffirms the commitment of the Municipality of Sirmione towards the promotion of culture and the enhancement of meeting places, these works represent a further step towards the creation of spaces that combine safety, innovation and participation. The temporary closure of the Municipal Library will be the subject, starting in the next few days, of an intense communication campaign that will use all channels available to the Municipality to have the reasonable certainty that all citizens are promptly informed and their understandable inconveniences are reduced to a minimum.

Some initiatives organized by the Library will continue during the closure period. The Italian Course for Foreigners, the reading groups, Sirmione Book Club Classic and Book Club English and the Club del Gomitolo will be temporarily hosted by the Social Resources Center in Piazza Virgilio a few meters from the Library.

The scheduled reopening date of the Sirmione Municipal Library to the public is Monday, October 28.
