Irish setter meeting

Lungolago di Lugana

The Irish Setter is distinguished, athletic, full of qualities, with a friendly expression and harmonious proportions. He was bred in Ireland as a working hunting dog.

The breed comes from the Irish Red-White Setter and an unknown dog with a single-color coat. The type was established in the 18th century.
In 1882, the “Irish Setter” Club” was founded to promote the breed, which published the Standard in 1886 and organized working trials and exhibitions to apply the breed Standard ever since.

In 1998 the Club also published the Working Standard and, the two Standards together reveal the description of the physical appearance and working ability of the breed. The Irish Setter, evolving over the years, has become a strong, healthy and intelligent dog, with excellent hunting ability and great resistance.
