“The final outcome is not the cataloging of a territory, the objective rendering of reality, the romantic languor of the journey, the formally impeccable fresco, but rather the desire to enter into a global relationship with the outside world, to seek adequate ways of representing it, to return images, data, figures, clues so that photographing the world is also a way to understand it.”
(Luigi Ghirri, Nothing Ancient Under the Sun)
Photography not as a simple tool of documentation, but as a means to understand the world. Mattia Marzorati himself chose Luigi Ghirri‘s quote to describe his approach to photography, which fully embodies this vision: a poetics that does not limit itself to cataloging what it sees, but explores new forms of representation, capable of restoring the complexity of reality.
On Friday 18 October, at the Hotel Catullo, the photographer protagonist of the Sirmione Photo Residency 2024 will talk with the journalist Francesca Roman, recounting his poetics through his past projects, including La terra dei buchi and revealing some details of Venatùra, the project he is carrying out for the Sirmione Photo Residency: an unprecedented look at local nature, told in an ideal mosaic that bears witness to its beauty and fragility.
The meeting will be an opportunity to explore Marzorati’s artistic path, his sensitivity to environmental issues and his ability to use photography to go beyond the image, aiming to capture the profound interactions between man, territory and nature.
