February at the museum on Lake Garda

The Direzione regionale Musei Lombardia (Lombardy Regional Museums Directorate) is offering a month of February packed with events dedicated to the discovery and promotion of three extraordinary archaeological sites in the lower Garda area: the Grottoes of Catullus, the Scaligero Castle in Sirmione, and the Roman Villa in Desenzano del Garda.

Through guided tours and itineraries, the public will be able to learn more about the history, art, and landscape of places that testify to the millennia-old human presence on the lakeshore.

The program:

• Sunday 1 February
  Grotte di Catullo, Villa Romana
  #DOMENICALMUSEO
  As every first Sunday of the month, entry to all state museums will be free.
• Sturday 7 February |  11 and 12.30 am
  Castello Scaligero e Grotte di Catullo
  FROM THE SCALIGERO CASTLE TO THE CAVES OF CATULLUS
  A guided tour departing at 11:00 a.m. from the Scaligero Castle and continuing to the
  Grotte di Catullo. Participation requires the purchase of a combined ticket (Scaliger Castle, Grotto di Catullo, and Roman Villa of Desenzano del Garda) for €18.

• Friday 13 and Sunday 21 February | 11 am
  Castello Scaligero di Sirmione
  GUIDED TOURS OF THE CASTLE
  The usual guided tours led by staff from the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Lombardy
  will reveal all the secrets of this marvelous architecture,
  including a visit to the dock. Participation includes admission to the Castle

  Villa Romana di Desenzano del Garda
  SAN VALENTINO IN VILLA ROMANA
  A guided tour of the Roman Villa in Desenzano del Garda dedicated to all
  couples in love, on Valentine’s Day.
  Participation includes admission to the archaeological site

  Grotte di Catullo
  GUIDED TOURS OF GROTYTE DI CATULLO
  A visit to the Grottoes of Catullus and the Sirmione National Archaeological Museum, organized by site staff.
