\n

On January 27 we celebrate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day<\/strong> to remember the Shoah<\/em>, the racial laws and the many citizens who were deported and taken prisoner during a painful chapter of our history.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In order not to forget the victims of the Holocaust, the CulturArte<\/strong> group of the Pro Loco of Solferino<\/strong> created a special installation entitled Volti… non numeri<\/b>. <\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

The images on display tell of the countless women, men, children, especially Jews, who were exterminated and deprived of all their rights during the Holocaust, and among these, in particular the right to a name. The exhibition thus develops the theme of the loss of identity<\/strong>. The transformation of prisoners into numbers, into “pieces” as they were defined by the executioners, is evoked by the bare iron silhouettes that bear the marks that the Nazis placed on the uniforms of adults, old people and children: the star, the yellow triangle, the triangle Violet. <\/span><\/p>\n

These depersonalized silhouettes are related to the many faces in the photographs of the deportees and to the verses of the poem “Se questo \u00e8 un uomo”<\/em><\/span> by Primo Levi, writer and witness who survived the Shoah<\/em>. The exhibition ends with a note of hope though the words of Liliana Segre, who writes:<\/span><\/p>\n

“Indifference holds the key to understanding the reason for evil, because when you believe that something does not touch you, it does not concern you, then there is no limit to horror. The indifferent is an accomplice. Accomplice of the worst crimes”<\/em>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Now it is also up to us to cultivate and share the memory so that those horrors never repeat themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n
