\nAfter the First World War, tragically ended the experience of Fiume, Gabriele d’Annunzio in January 1921 is looking for a new home in a quiet place, on the lake, where he can retire. He moved to Gardone Riviera, on the Lombard shore of Lake Garda where, with the help of the architect Giancarlo Maroni, he built the monumental citadel, the Vittoriale degli Italiani, a complex of buildings, streets, squares, an open-air theater, gardens and streams.<\/p>\n
