Bersagliere, Ugo Montemurro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Piazza Mercato, Sirmione<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><strong>Ugo Montemurro<\/strong> was a highly decorated Italian general.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Commander of the IV Cyclists Battalion during the First World War.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">in 1939 he was assigned to command the 8th Bersaglieri Regiment.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">At the outbreak of World War II he fought extensively in North Africa.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He was then sent to Russia in 1942, where he fought until the following year and participated in the Resistance between 1944 and 1945.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">After hostilities, he will be promoted to General for War Merits in 1946. He will retire to Negrar at the age of 58 and will preside over the War Orphans Association, also becoming Vice-President of the National Bersaglieri Association.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">he was also a talented painter.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">He died in Sirmione in 1979, in whose cemetery he rests today.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ugo_Montemurro#:~:text=Ugo%20Montemurro%20(Portoferraio%2C%201891%20%E2%80%93,%C3%A8%20stato%20un%20generale%20italiano.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn more<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Piazza Mercato, Sirmione Ugo Montemurro was a highly decorated Italian general.
