What are they already doing without us noticing?

You can photograph trees, but also shrubs, bushes, and hedges: along the streets, in gardens, parks, or on the peninsula’s beaches.

Before you start photographing, step into Palazzo Callas Exhibitions and be inspired by the images of Magnum photographers.

To give you time to explore and gather inspiration, the marathon will last longer and end at 2:30 PM.

THEME 1
HARMONY

Plants are not all the same: some have strange shapes, others bold colors, still others details that seem drawn. Sometimes they’re enough on their own, other times they work better together: they repeat, respond, complement each other.

They can also dialogue with their surroundings: a wall, a street, a person, an object.

Look for these combinations; if something strikes you, stop: you’ve probably found harmony.

THEME 2
STREET CHILDREN

Plants in the city can grow almost anywhere and have their own special way of inhabiting urban spaces.

Some find a home even where it seems impossible to grow: between walls, on sidewalks, in concrete, and in cracks in the asphalt.

Look for these presences and photograph the plants that pop up where you least expect them. See how they occupy space, how they change it, how they manage to survive even in difficult conditions.

Other plants, however, adapt to the spaces that humans provide for them and in which they try to domesticate them, modifying and arranging them in search of artificial forms, as happens in certain gardens, on avenues and in hedges.

The themes of the 2026 TEENS Photo Marathon were inspired by the images of Magnum Photos photographers in the exhibition If trees could speak which invites us to observe trees and plants from a different perspective.
